Mary (Maria) Mugeni is a Ph.D. student in the Geography Department at Penn State University, University Park. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from Kenyatta University and a Master of Science degree in Geography from Ohio University. She has substantial work expertise in urban informal spaces.
She is interested in studying how urban informal spaces in Sub-Saharan Africa are adapting to climate change, what policies and strategies they are employing to enhance resilience, and how political and social factors influence these efforts; and explore the role of informal settlements in the context of urban and environmental sustainability.
Her research interests are in Political Ecology, Climate change resilience and adaptation; Urban and environmental sustainability; Mixed method research.
